George Washington
Union and all Contemporary Freemason obediences share the following
values:
- Liberty:
Human beings are able to govern themselves, to behave according
to their own free will, and take responsibility for their actions
- Equality:
All people should be treated with the same dignity or be regarded
as possessing the same intrinsic qualities despite our
societal diversity of race, religion, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation,
political affiliation, socioeconomic status, (dis)ability or cultural
heritage
- Fraternity:
Men and women (brothers and sisters) associated and formally organized
for a common purpose, interest, or a set of values and principles
centered around Masonic ideals, trust, and loyalty.
The George Washington
Union promotes the additional values, Harmony, Unity, and Diversity.
Harmony is an ideal state of society or community based on tolerance,
patience, trust, mutual respect, and goodwill, which establishes
a satisfying human concord that transcends prejudices and antagonism.
Harmony is achieved from unity and diversity - diversity of beliefs,
philosophies, worldviews, ethnic backgrounds, race, political affiliation,
religion, social-economic status, or Masonic background.
In addition
and very importantly, Absolute Liberty of Conscience in light of
religion and spirituality is a critical and defining value of Contemporary
Freemasonry, the George Washington Union, and Praxis Lodge. This
liberty or freedom implies:
- Freedom of
the mind and liberation in regard to all dogmas
- The right
to believe or not to believe in the existence of God, a Supreme
Being, or any form of deity
- Autonomy
of thought concerning religious, political, and economical constraints.
For this reason, and based on this fundamental human right, Praxis
Lodge, as a secular lodge of Freemasonry, does not require that
its members hold or declare any theological, metaphysical, or religious
beliefs or dogma, such as the existence of God or gods, the immortality
of the soul, etc
Praxis Lodge
